Train as an Engineer Officer…

Engineer Officers are trained to be responsible for all aspects of the running and maintenance of the ship’s main propulsion skills, boilers, electrical power generation and auxiliary mechanical and electrical equipment as well as instrumentation and control equipment. The objective of the engineer officer is to become the ship’s Chief Engineer Officer. You will need to have or develop mechanical aptitude as your job will involve both understanding and knowledge of the working of the various systems under you control as well as the ability to diagnose and repair faulty equipment. Your training will contain a considerable element of ‘hands on’ workshop skills.

Engineer Officers with a Class 1 Certificate of Competency (Chief Engineer) plus a BSc Honours degree in Marine Engineering have excellent career prospects in the wider Marine Industry.

The Marine Engineer Officer becomes an expert in a wide variety of machinery, instrumentation and control systems. It is this background and his achievement in the 1st Class Engineer Certificate of Competency (Chief Engineer) that gives him the edge in all branches of engineering should he decide, after experience at sea to take on another challenge ashore.
Many Maritime related jobs will also require further qualifications such as an appropriate degree.
